This qualification provides a trade outcome in solid plastering for residential and commercial work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, solid plastering. Solid plasterers apply plaster, cement and other mixtures to walls to create smooth or decorative finishes to interior walls and to render to exterior walls.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

– Either a minimum IELTS test score of 5.5 (with no component lower than 5) or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course; Results older than two years are not acceptable.
LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY (LLN) TEST
Applicants must undertake a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment during their induction session prior to beginning the qualification. Results will be assessed on an individual level by the assessor. Depending upon the level of support required for the language, literacy, or numeracy, an alternative training and assessment methods may be used or the learners will be recommended through individual support to fulfill the LLN gaps during the student journey.
OVERSEAS STUDENT HEALTH COVER (OSHC)
All international students must have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of their stay in Australia.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Participants must be able to undertake the physical tasks required in this role, including manual handling using equipment in an aged care or disability care setting.

ASSESSMENT:
The assessment of each unit of competency will take place during the course. Assessments will take the form of knowledge test, practical demonstration and project.
Knowledge questions and worksheets:
To assess the required knowledge GHMC used knowledge questions (short answer questions) that include questions covering required knowledge and performance criteria for the unit.
Practical demonstration (workshop):
Students are required to demonstrate practical skills and knowledge in solid plastering within a simulated construction environment. Prior to assessment, they undertake structured workshop sessions to practice tasks including erecting and dismantling scaffolding, safely handling and applying plaster materials, using hand and power tools, preparing and repairing surfaces, applying float and render to flat and curved surfaces, layering set coats, creating trowelled texture finishes, and restoring or renovating damaged plasterwork. Students are also expected to follow safe work practices, including correct use of PPE, safe manual handling, and adherence to workplace health and safety procedures. For practical assessments, students provide their own tool kit and appropriate PPE, which are checked for compliance prior to commencing. Tasks are completed within a set timeframe, with trainers observing performance, providing feedback, and assessing competency against national training standards.
