Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in the managing, co-ordinating and/or delivering of person-centered services to individuals, groups and communities.

At this level, workers have specialized skills in community services and work autonomously under broad directions from senior management. Workers are usually providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals. Workers may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers and/or case management; program coordination or the development of new business opportunities.

Note that the Statutory & forensic child, youth & family welfare specialization must be achieved in order to meet the minimum education requirements for child protection and youth justice practice in Victoria. In addition, to meet the minimum education requirements for entry into child protection practice in Victoria, diploma qualifications must be approved by the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA)

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 100 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Entry Requirements

AGE REQUIREMENTS  

Be 18 years or over at course commencement.

ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS  

We accept the admission of students if they qualify in ANY ONE (1) of the following:

International students applying for this course either off-shore or on-shore will require:

– Either a minimum IELTS test score of 5.5 (with no component lower than 5) or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course; Results older than two years are not acceptable.  

OR  

– To provide evidence that they have studied in English for at least 5 years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, or United States.  

OR  

– Evidence that within two years of their application date, they have successfully completed Certificate IV or higher-level qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework.

LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY (LLN) TEST  

Applicants must undertake a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment during their induction session prior to beginning the qualification. Results will be assessed on an individual level by the assessor. Depending upon the level of support required for language, literacy, or numeracy, alternative training and assessment methods may be used or the learners will be recommended through individual support to fulfill the LLN gaps during the student journey.

OVERSEAS STUDENT HEALTH COVER (OSHC)  

All international students must have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of their stay in Australia.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  

Participants must be able to undertake the physical tasks required in this role, including manual handling using equipment in an aged care or disability care setting.

COMPUTER LITERACY REQUIREMENTS  

All students enrolling into Global Healthcare Management College programs must have basic computer skills. Students will be asked questions related to computer and internet skills in the Pre-enrolment Interview by GHMC staff.

Assessment:

A variety of assessment methods form part of this course including written assignments, presentations, portfolios of work, role plays and projects.

Intake Dates:

 – Monthly intakes except June and December

Study Period

In a year, there are two study periods:

  • The 1st study period: from January to May (June Break)
  • The 2nd study period: from July to November (December Break)

Note: Students may be required to continue their study during the June break and December break. The study classes in June and December can be arranged due to special circumstances (e.g., lack of academic progress or under the intervention strategy plan.)

COURSE CREDIT  

Global Healthcare Management College can grant you credit towards your course for units of competency that you have already completed with another RTO or authorized issuing organisation. We can also grant you Credit for subjects or units you have completed where equivalence can be established between the unit in your course, and the subject or unit you have completed.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING  

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where skills and knowledge that you have gained through work and life experience and other unrecognized training can be formally recognised. Global Healthcare Management College has a process that has been structured to minimize the time and cost to applicants and provides a supportive approach to students wishing to take up this option. You should ideally apply for RPL at the time of enrolment, but you may also apply up to 2 weeks into your course.

EDUCATION PATHWAYS  

After achieving the Diploma of Community Services, you have several pathway options. You can complete further study such as social work and counseling depending on your grades. This is on an individual application basis.

WORK PLACEMENT  

Students are required to undertake a Practical placement of 120 hours. This placement gives the student the opportunity to apply their knowledge acquired in the classroom into work-based practices. GHMC can assist in finding suitable placements upon request. A Police Clearance Certificate is mandatory prior to your work placement; you must undertake a Federal Police Check (AFP). This can be done through a website.
